Family of tragic teen Emma back hospice

Cash appeal for CHAS unit

- Chris Marzella

The family of a Balfron teenager who died from cystic fibrosis are looking to raise money for charity in her name.

Emma Buchanan passed away, aged 15, on Boxing Day 2013.

The Balfron High pupil suffered from cystic fibrosis and was supported by Robin House, in Balloch, a hospice for sick children.

She stayed at the facility, run by Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS), for the last few months of her life.

The well-loved student celebrated her 15th birthday in November 2013, but sadly passed away just weeks later.

She became unwell in the early hours of Christmas Eve 2013 and was transported by ambulance to Robin House.

She became unconscious, and the family stayed with her, holding her hand and talking to her throughout Christmas Day before she sadly passed away on December 26.

Now Emma’s family, mum, Tracy, dad, Johnny and older sister, Jordan, want to try and raise as much money as possible for CHAS to try and show their appreciation for all the support and help they received from CHAS and the staff at Robin House.

Jordan, 25, said: “Emma lived with cystic fibrosis from a young age. She was about two years old when she was diagnosed. For years it really badly affected her breathing and it was hard to watch at times.

“Towards the end of her life it was very hard for us all. She would go in to Robin House at weekends every so often, usually to give mum a bit of respite, but in the final three or four months of her life she lived there full time.

“The staff were great for Emma right until the end and as a family we wanted to keep supporting the charity and Robin House, So we want to keep trying to raise funds for them.”

Jordan has organised a fundraising quiz event at the McLintock Hall in Balfron on June 16 at 7pm. The event will be hosted by George Goodall and Amanda Reid Chaplin, from Robin House, will speak at the event.

There are still tables available for the event. To book a table or if anyone or any businesses would like to donate a raffle prize then email Jordan on jordanbuchanan05@ hotmail.co.uk. Donations can also be made directly to both CHAS and Robin House.
