Influential musicians to tour new record
Former Arab Strap man Aidan Moffat will team up with talented musician RM Hubbert for a gig at the Tolbooth in the coming weeks.
The duo met a number of years ago and their first collaboration, Car Song, was released in 2012 on Hubbert’s Thirteen Lost and Found album.
Their new album Here Lies the Body came out this month and contains a rich narrative throughout.
It begins with the chance encounter of two old flames who are enjoying stag and hen parties in Blackpool.
What follows is songs filled with wit and wisdom, exploring themes of love, family fortune telling, deceit, death and marshmallows.
Critics say the result is a moving, diverse, record of beauty which straddles the line between light and dark – and faith and fear.
Audiences across Scotland will have the chance to hear the new material when the duo head on tour – joined by Siobhan Wilson and former Arab Strap drummer David Jeans.
The show takes place at the Tolbooth on June 29 with tickets priced at £16/£18. Must be aged 14 and older and under 16s should be accompanied by an adult.
Moffat and Malcolm Middleton began making music under the name Arab Strap in 1995 – and became an influential part of the Glasgow music scene in the years which followed with albums The Week Never Starts Around Here and Philophobia.
He has since worked on a range of solo material and collaborated with a host of top artists.
Hubbert, a highly rated guitarist, has performed as a solo artist, as part of Scottish post rock band El Hombre Trajeado and has been part of the Glasgow DIY music scene for more than 25 years.
