DUCKS HOOK £5,000

-

Bridge of Allan and Dunblane Rotary Club sold around 4,200 ducks for the annual duck race as part of the Dunblane Fling at the end of May.

Together with proceeds from the sale of ducks, tickets for a bouncy castle, and the sale of 264 crêpes made by club members on the Saturday at the Fling, the initiative raised over £5,000 to be shared between the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS) and Childline.

And for 20 fortunate winners whose ducks swam most strongly down the Allanwater River, there were prizes. These included an electronic tablet, four generous food hampers, a framed picture, cash prizes, steak pies, and a number of vouchers for meals and for other services generously donated by local providers.

Some of the lucky winners came to the Westlands hotel on Thursday to collect their prizes from club president George Morrison and chair of community services, Stuart Brown.

Thanking prizewinners for their support, Mr Morrison emphasised the generosity of those who had supported the duck race.

“Not everyone can be a winner,”he said,“but the financial proceeds from the sale of ducks and the other Rotary efforts at the Fling means we are able to help these two wonderful organisations to continue with their valuable work. Everyone who bought a duck, or a crêpe, can feel they have made a worthwhile contribution to that work.

“We look forward to an even larger launch of ducks next year.”
