Author goes on the road with new title

Stirling crime writer RJ Mitchell is set to launch his new page-turner in the city this week.

The author’s new crime thriller ‘The Shadow of Fear’ was published by Nine Elms Books at the start of this month.

He will talk to an audience about the novel during at the Stirling Smith tomorrow (Thursday) evening.

And this will kick-start a 30-stop signing tour which will see the writer meet fans in WH Smith stores throughout the country.

The 51-year-old said: “This year is a really big year for me with my fifth book out and, of course, this huge Scottish signing tour.

“On Saturdays for the next seven months, expect for a couple of breaks for holiday, I will be pitching up at stores across high streets and shopping centres in every major city and town in Scotland.

“I am really looking forward to getting out there and engaging with the British reading public because that’s what it’s all about after all.”

The writer was runner-up in last year’s People’s Book Prize with ‘The Shift,’ his police procedural based on his life and times as a rookie cop in Glasgow in 1989.

During his last book tour he sold more than 1000 copies of the pageturner.

WH Smith Scotland director David Hunter said: “I’m delighted that the strong relationsh­ip which we have with RJ Mitchell will continue this year with a 30-store book tour to support the publicatio­n of his new book.”

‘The Shadow of Fear’ features references to the Stirling Observer and roving reporter Madonna Black.

The book tells the story of an exSAS hero who finds himself locked up in Barlinnie for a crime he did not commit. On his release he is strongarme­d into working for a prominent criminal figure on a special job.
