Documentary festival is back in city for 2018
A top documentary festival will return to Stirling for a second year.
The Central Scotland Documentary Festival (CSDF) is scheduled to take place at the Macrobert Arts Centre from Thursday, October 4 to Monday, October 8.
The event is organised to shine a spotlight on the genre and celebrating the local links to the ‘father of documentary’ John Grierson, who hails from Doune. Last year a number of short films were featured covering a range of subjects – highlighting passions and plights and challenging thoughts and beliefs.
Among those showing were Brexitannia, The Truth Behind The Headlines and Racing Extinction.
Festival curator and programmer Grahame Reid is currently working on the programme for this year’s festival and he is looking forward to building on the successes of 2017.
He said: “Pulling everything together to establish this brand new film event last year was a personal and professional highlight for me, and the culmination of two years of planning.
“We had five Scottish film premieres, a UK one and screened top films like Brexitannia, accompanied by a lively question and answer session with director Timothy George Kelly.
“We also commissioned a special closing event from Shona Thomson (A Kind Of Seeing) that brought together archive films of the local area – a real highlight with audiences.”
Details of films and events planned for 2018 are still in the works, but organisers say audiences can look forward to being challenged, entertained, engaged and inspired to question and explore the world they live in through a programme of screenings, Q&As, panel discussions and events.
Grahame added: “Plans are already starting to come together for this year’s festival and we’re off to Sheffield DocFest in June to meet with documentary makers from across the UK and abroad, looking to build an even more exciting programme for 2018.
“Look out for some more news at the start of the summer when we’re hoping to put tickets on ale for one of the documentaries a bit early.”
Full programme details for the 2018 Central Scotland Documentary Festival will be available at the start of September and will be available on the festival website and social media. Go to centralscotdocufest.org.
