A driver ploughed through a glass window at the entrance to a city supermarket.

The female driver mounted a pavement and smashed in to the window — just yards from the main customer entrance — at the Lidl store on Player Road.

The incident happened at around 8am on Sunday. It’s not clear what caused the car to slam in to the glass.

The incident occurred just as the store was opening on Sunday morning. The red vehicle sat outside of the store, with both the car and window badly damaged. The car was left with a crumpled bonnet.

The pavement outside of the store was covered with broken glass.

By Monday afternoon, the window had been boarded up with a wooden panel.

Police tape was set up around the scene.

It was the motorist herself who then made the phone call to Police Scotland to report the incident.

Inspector Anton Stephenson, from Stirling police station, said:“We received a call from a driver who had accidentally crashed their car. Fortunately nobody was injured. “No charges have been brought.” A spokesperson for Lidl said:“We can confirm that store operations are unaffected, following an incident that occurred at our Players Road store in Stirling. We are working hard to ensure that the damage is repaired as soon as possible.”
