Thousands flock to

Sun smiles on long-established event

- Alastair McNeill

Around 2000 people enjoyed entertainment, competitions and events at this year’s Stirling Show on Saturday, June 9.

The show, established in 1858, took place in Stirling’s Blackgrange Field and included cattle, sheep and horse judging, and a sheep shearing demonstration.

There was also a display by horse riders the Wee County Vaulters and a tractor display.

The organisers estimate that around 2000 people attended the event in bright sunshine – in contrast with the wet weather in the run-up to last year’s event which had to be cancelled due to poor ground conditions.

This year was Jen Kinnear’s first as show secretary.

Ms Kinnear, of Bannockburn, said: “There was a fantastic atmosphere and of course the weather was good too. It was a great show of livestock and horses. It made for a fun-filled family day out.

“One of the highlights was our main ring entertainment with The Wee County Vaulters and the quality and turnout of livestock and horses from many exhibitors.

“My personal highlight of the first show as secretary has got to be seeing it all come together with a good attendance and lots of smiling faces of everyone enjoying themselves.”

The overall cattle champion was a Simmental Bull called Curaheen Drifter from Overhill House Livestock, Armadale, and the overall sheep champion a Texel Gimmer called Anna from Robert Cockburn, Errol, Perth.
