Central AC’s men’s team finished fourth onm the day and remain third overall after the second of this season’s Scottish Division One Track and Field Meetings, held in Aberdeen on Sunday.

Once again Michael Wright was first on track in the 400 metres hurdles, finishing in fourth A placing in 67.60 while David Lindsay provided back-up to take third‘B’place in 67.00s

The 800m saw Alastair Hay compete in a high quality‘A’race, finishing fourth in 1.57.33 and Dale Colley showed improvemen­t from his previous outing to finish third in the‘B’ event with 2.05.89.

There was also high quality sprinting on show from all eight teams in the division with Kieran Halliday seventh in the‘A’100m in 12.3 backed up by Matt Chandler’s sixth‘B’spot in 11.9secs. Michael Wright was back with Ruaridh Miller in the 3000m steeplecha­se clocking 9.44.57 and 9.49.49 respective­ly for second‘A’and first‘B’placings. David Lindsay ran in the same race as a guest finishing in an improved 10.41.58.

Kai Ligertwood shouldered responsibi­lity for the 110m hurdles taking fifth placing in a time of 21.58 after hitting the second hurdle, sending him somewhat off balance. The 1500m saw a spectacula­r final lap effort from Aidan Thompson as he overhauled a 20-metre lead by his Shettlesto­n Harriers rivals to win by a similar margin in 3.56.92. Dale Colley again proved his worth to the team in taking third‘B’ spot with 4.11.91.

The 200m series had Under 20 Kieran Halliday back on the track finishing in seventh ‘A’place in 24.29 and back-up from Under 17 Erik Escala as he sped to seventh‘B’place with 24.74.

Alastair Hay was in contention on the early laps of the 5000m but a loose shoe lace put paid to any winning hopes. A quick stop and re-tying saw Alastair finish in second‘A’with 15.20.12 while Fraser Logan picked up yet more points with a gritty run of 15.42.45 for second‘B’points.

In the field events the throwing duties were covered by a combinatio­n of Donovan Webster, Tom Chandler, Matt Chandler and the ever competitiv­e Ron Todd. Matt was close to his personal best in the javelin with a throw of 38.63m with Ron throwing some 29.74m.

Donavan threw out to 31.27me in the discus with Tom‘s best throw 29.90m. The hammer saw Donovan throw a best of 29.06m while Ron achieved more points with 24.64m. Shot putt proved

the best points scoring field event for the team with Tom’s 11.34m taking third‘A’place and Donovan’s 11.08m effort winning the‘B’ event. The pole vault had Ron clear 3.20m and Colin Christie 2.60m.

Central’s Under 17’s were to the fore in the high jump with Erik Escala reaching 1.65m and newcomer Hamish Nouwens, 1.55me. Hamish also proved his worth in the long jump with a personal best 5.33m, backed-up by Kai Ligertwood’s 5.11m effort. Kai was also on duty in the triple jump with a best effort of 10.50m.

The 4 x 100metes quartet of Tom Chandler, Matt Chandler, Kieran Halliday and Erik Escala showed strong running to record 45.86 in fifth spot. The 4x400metre quartet of Dale Colley, Aidan Thompson, Alastair Hay and Tom Chandler were competitiv­e throughout the race but had to settle for sixth place with an improved 3.39.76.The guest 100m saw Erik Escala record 12.35.
