Arthur the rabbit is crowned as Pet Idol

- Robert Fairnie

Arthur the rabbit has formally been crowned Stirling Observer Pet Idol champion.

The eight-month-old Lionhead Mini Lop was revealed as the winner earlier this month and his prize was a jam-packed £50 hamper courtesy of competition sponsor Morrisons supermarket, Springkerse Road.

His adult owners also picked up a prize – however it’s probably not suitable for young Arthur due to its alcohol content.

The rabbit is owned by the Pheely family from Bridge of Allan. And youngster Emmy (12) was on-hand to pose for pictures with her prized pet, and Mandy Fairley from the supermarket, during the formal prize presentation last week.

Mum Rachel says that Arthur has seamlessly fitted into their family life and was even fed some of his favourite treat – Kale – to celebrate the landmark victory.

He lives in a plush two-storey hutch located in their living room, although enjoys spending time hiding behind, and under, the sofa.

His hobbies include playing with newspaper, the Stirling Observer in particular, and wearing his stylish sombrero.

Arthur beat off stiff competition from rescued desert dog Haggis from Dubai and Bengal cross Boab who finished second and third respectively.

The Pet Idol 2018 competition was launched in January and more than 700 entries came flooding in. We had everything from cats and dogs to bearded dragons, hamsters and hens this year.

The owners of Boab and Haggis will each take home £25 worth of treats from the store.
