Pupils at Dunblane Primary are bidding a fond farewell to their head teacher.

A special assembly was held at the school on Friday to say goodbye to Sally Kennedy who is retiring.

Mrs Kennedy started her career at Braehead Primary in 1984, where she served her probation year. In 1986 she became a class teacher at Bridge of Allan Primary.

She moved to Braehead Primary in 1988, where she spent nine years teaching youngsters.

In 1997 she was appointed as assistant head teacher at St Ninians Primary and remained in that role until 2001, when she moved to Allans Primary to become head teacher.

She then took up her most recent role as Dunblane Primary head teacher in 2010.

Mrs Kennedy also worked as an associate assessor for Education Scotland from 2007 and she was recently nominated by Stirling Council for the Education Scotland lifetime achievement award for her service at Allans and Dunblane primary schools and her work across the authority. She reached the final three.

Dunblane Primary acting head teacher, Jill Hosking, said:“Sally has brought a lot to Dunblane Primary during her time as head teacher. She is a great role model for staff and children alike and has been passionate about providing the children of Dunblane with exciting learning opportunities.

“She has developed and led staff with many of them going on to become school leaders in their own right. She has had a career that anybody in education would be proud of.”

Site investigation works are to commence at Brucefields Golf Club next week as part of the South Stirling Gateway project.

The work will begin on Monday, July 2 and is expected to last for two weeks.

The golf club said this week that the work should not interfere with play on the course.

The South Stirling Gateway project extends to 56 hectares and includes housing land for up to 800 homes, a primary school, a retail superstore, commercial and business development and a potential park and ride facility.

It is understood that 600 of the homes would be built by developer Tulloch with the remaining 200 by other developers.

Tulloch Homes chief executive George Fraser said: “We’ve taken a considerable length of time to reach this stage, in close liaison with Stirling Council. Consultation with various interested bodies are ongoing.

“Our priority is to deliver our part of the project with painstaking quality and craftsmanship as well as creating significant employment in the Stirling area. This, in turn, will provide a showpiece new entrance gateway to the city of Stirling while creating a new neighbourhood with a recognisable development heart.”

Kirsty Burge, of Brucefields Golf Club, explained that the work was limited to certain areas of the course.

She said: “Certain site investigation procedures are required on the golf course but these will not take place on tees, fairways or greens.

“Great care is being taken to ensure that golfers will be able to enjoy their game with little or no interference from the contractor.

“This site investigation works will begin on the golf course on July 2 and are due for completion in a two-week period and are essential to assess the ground conditions for the South Stirling Gateway project.

“We will be keeping our members fully informed and the day-to-day running of Brucefields will not be affected.”
