Awardfor Brendan
A Stirling building site manager has scooped a top industry award.
Brendan Saba, manager at the Barratt and David Wilson Homes site at Highland Gate, was one of just 40 across the country to be presented with a ‘quality award’ in the first round of NHBC Pride in the Job Awards 2018.
Now in their 38th year, the awards are one of the most highly regarded competitions in the house-building industry.
Over the past 12 months judges have assessed the skills demonstrated by the site managers in their dayto-day work, covering six key areas – consistency, attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise and health and safety.
The award winners will now go on to compete for Seal of Excellence and Regional Awards that will be announced at an event in Glasgow in October, with the Supreme Award Winners unveiled at a gala ceremony in January 2019. roads in that area had been closed off.
He explained: “I wanted to get out on the Sunday morning of the marathon and I couldn’t get access to the road network. I couldn’t go about my business.”
Newsagents Allanwater Papers had been unable to receive the early morning delivery of the Sunday papers and was unable to provide an effective delivery service.
Bridge of Allan Community Council chairman Mike Watson said: “We do enjoy and welcome the publicity, trade and positive ambience generated by the marathon and most residents are happy with the day.
“What we are seeking is a dialogue to enhance the event and resolve any unnecessary problems through for example more flexibility of road closures times outwith the actual event and improved sign posting and communication.”
The group agreed to contact the marathon organisers Great Run about the matter through Bridge of Allan and Dunblane councillor Douglas Dodds.
Councillor Dodds who was a marshall at the marathon said: “I am fully sympathetic with what a minority of residents have said, and I am in the process of liaising with the council’s events team to raise these concerns.
“However, I would stress that enough notice and mapping is circulated about road closures. It’s an annual event which attracts runners from all over the UK, promotes Stirling as a place to visit and helps the area economically.”Around 2000 people were finishers in this year’s marathon.
