German Exchange A group of seven Beaconhurst pupils enjoyed an exchange trip with German partner school, Grunewald Grundschule, located in the CharlottenburgWilmersdorf area of Berlin recently. Accompanied by English teacher Rachel Vevers and Head of Modern Languages Gill McLean the pupils experienced the German way of life by following their exchange partners’ school routines and living with host families. Outwith school lessons, the S1 and S2 youngsters spent time discovering Berlin and visiting famous attractions including Berlin Zoo, The Story of Berlin Museum, the Brandenburg Gate and the impressive Reichstag building. They also enjoyed a boat trip on the river Spree as well as souvenir shopping on the famous Kurfürstendam. The Beaconhurst pupils had the chance to put their German language skills to the test in everyday situations and benefited hugely from the cultural aspect of the trip. They had the opportunity to form new friendships and are looking forward to welcoming the Grunewald exchange pupils and their teachers to Scotland in September for the second part of the exchange. The pupils and their families are eager to offer them a truly Scottish experience with visits to Stirling, Edinburgh and Glasgow planned.
