Ugly message on show in city

-

Dear Editor The banner bearing the words‘Tory Scum Out’ appears to be commonplace at all All Under One Banner marches and on Saturday, in Stirling, shamefully, a child was helping to carry this for at least some of the way.

Is it not time that this vile practice stopped? If Tories or any other political party marched through any town carrying a banner with similar wording and substituted Tory for SNP, you could only imagine the outrage.

Nicola Sturgeon’s mantra is that ours is an open, welcoming and inclusive country and that our Nationalism is different , better and more inclusive than other Nationalisms.

How does that reconcile with this insulting and inflammatory message to those people in our community ( and indeed in our country) who voted Tory? This is not remotely acceptable to any decent fair-minded person, irrespective of political affiliations.

During a weekend when the UK was celebrating the life of Jo Cox and her legacy, the city of Stirling was proudly hosting a march with this predictable, divisive and ugly message for all the country to see.

I hope that Bruce Crawford, MSP for all the people of Stirling, and Keith Brown, deputy leader of the SNP, will listen to the serious concerns of decent constituents of all political persuasions and publicly denounce the practice of displaying this and other similarly worded hatefilled and hostile proclamations in Stirling and elsewhere.

It surely must be a matter of deep regret to them that they openly associated themselves on Saturday with the bigoted, nasty and divisive message conveyed by the participants of this particular march .
