Show charts Lauren’s epic sporting challenge
Having never set foot on a running track in her life Lauren Hendry decided to sign up for the epic World Ultra Multi-Event Championships.
The event, a tetra-decathlon, saw her competing alongside only 12 other women at a World Championships event across 14 gruelling track and field disciplines.
And now Lauren is bringing her one-woman show titled TetraDecathlon to the Macrobert Arts Centre next month.
The production charts her bid as she trained for and competed in the most taxing of sporting events.
It also asks pertinent questions about the psychology of sport and what drives us to compete, while also celebrating coming last but still coming back for more.
In the event, which Lauren describes as “14 kinds of daft” she was required to run, hurdle, jump and throw.
The challenges involved were for running a 100m race along with 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m and 3000m.
She was also required to compete in hurdles across 100m, 200m and 400m along with long-jump and high jump events.
Shot-put, javelin and discus were also involved.
The show is said to be a funny and inspiring look at what it takes to be a serious amateur.
Lauren, from Glasgow, said: “After umpteen hours literally running in circles, I’m delighted to be making Tetra-Decathlon alongside a brilliant creative team at Macrobert Arts Centre.
Tetra-Decathlon is supported by Festival 2018 – the cultural programme of the Glasgow 2018 European Championships – and Tron Theatre.
The show takes place on July 27 and July 28 – and will also be running at venues in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dumbarton, Motherwell and Crieff.
