BINOS WANT PETE TO STAY

Boss hopes striker will sign new deal

- David Ogilvie

Stirling Albion manager Dave Mackay expects striker Peter MacDonald to sign a new contract at Forthbank for the forthcoming campaign.

The veteran frontman, who can count Rangers, Dundee, Morton and St Johnstone among his former clubs, joined Stirling from Clyde last summer.

He was their second-top scorer last term behind 25-goal Darren Smith – with 11 goals in all competitions.

MacDonald featured in the majority of games and was voted Ladbrokes League 2 Player of the Month for February.

He will be 38 in November but Mackay believes he is still capable of scoring regularly at this level.

He said: “Peter did well for us last year and I don’t see his age as a problem. He scored a decent number of goals and might have had more had he not been hampered by a knee injury at one stage.

“He was looking fit at the end of the season and I believe he has at least another season left in him.

“It’s not been confirmed yet but I expect Peter to sign for next season. We’re also close to bringing in another striker and to completing a deal for a goalkeeper.”

Stirling have 13 first-team players currently on their books and those transfers would take the number to 16 as the new campaign approaches.

Mackay added: “We had hoped to have one or two more on board before now but with the ones in the pipeline and possibly another couple to come, that would take us back up to 18 players.”
