Tory councillors say some residents have expressed anger at the lack of communication from the council, with letters only being sent on June 1 ahead of the June 11 start, and that there was no public consultation period to address questions about the suitability of properties of the policy or its likely impact on residents.
A Stirling Council spokesperson said:“These important changes will dramatically improve the resilience and the reliability of the service.
“The new road end collection points are being implemented because many of these roads are simply not suitable for the large, heavy goods vehicles and the 90 properties identified to date are all located on private or unadopted roads.
“All residents affected are sent letters giving advanced notice with a start date and maps detailing where their new collection point will be.
“There was a full public consultation held to consider residents’views and the waste collection efficiency improvements previously agreed were discussed by the cross-party working group.
“The road end project was delayed while the council’s waste service introduced a more comprehensive residential waste collection service across the local authority area.
“There was never any intention to shelve or cancel the road end project and a number of other local authorities have already introduced successful road end collection schemes.
“This forms a key component of ensuring a consistent, quality, reliable waste service to which we all strive.”
