‘Unexplained’ death of hillwalker (85)
The death of an 85–year old English hillwalker on a hillside near Inversnaid is being treated as ‘unexplained’.
The body of Jack Higham was discovered on Beinn a’ Choin in the early hours on Wednesday morning.
Mr Higham had initially been reported missing by police in Nottingham and it was believed that he drove to Scotland and headed to the Aberfoyle area.
Officers were concerned for his safety after he was reported missing in the early hours of Monday (June 25) morning.
Mr Higham travelled alone to Scotland in his grey Renault Megane.
Volunteers were called out in the search for Mr Higham on Tuesday evening.
Lomond Mountain Rescue Team were called out and they enlisted help of the mountain rescue team from Killin to assist at around 8.30pm.
The search for Mr Higham was called off when he was discovered at around 5am on Wednesday morning on the hillside near Loch Arklet.
Police Scotland confirmed the news of Mr Higham’s death on Wednesday afternoon.
A spokesperson said: “Police Scotland can confirm that a body has sadly been found in the search for missing man, Jack Higham.
“Specialist search teams discovered Mr Higham’s body at Beinn a’ Choin, near the Inversnaid area, in the early hours of Wednesday June 27.
“Mr Higham’s family have been informed and our condolences are with them at this difficult time.
“The death is currently being treated as unexplained, but not suspicious, and a report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
