Pupils were game for it
Chance to develop their skills
More than 300 youngsters from six Stirling area secondary schools took part in the annual Junior Games event last week.
The event, now in its seventh year, is organised by Active Stirling and supported by PE teaching staff and was held at Stirling Sports Village on Tuesday, June 19.
It is designed to give S1 to S3 pupils the chance to take part in five sports – basketball, hockey, football, netball and water polo, along with a taster session in boccia.
Schools were awarded five points for entering an event and a further two, four or six for placing third, second or first.
Balfron High School were crowned overall champions for the second year in a row with 59 points – four ahead of Dunblane High in second place.
Colin Naismith, Active Stirling’s Active Schools manager, said: “The annual Junior Games provides a fantastic opportunity for over 300 pupils to take part in a large multi sport event.
“It is the culmination of our secondary events programmes focusing on a range of sports that pupils can take part in throughout the year.
“It’s great to see so many pupils taking part, having fun and developing skills.”
Paul O’Shea, Active Stirling’s Active Schools co-ordinator, added: “The Junior Games was an excellent day of sporting activity for our local secondary pupils.
“It was a highly competitive day of sport, with only four points separating Balfron and Dunblane at the end.
“Thanks to all Active Stirling staff and volunteers who supported the day and to Stirling Netball Club and Forth Valley Disability Sport for their continued partnership.
“Also, a massive well done to all pupils who took part, and congratulations to Balfron High School on retaining the overall Junior Games Shield.”
