Parents are polluters

-

In last Friday’s Stirling Observer you carried a story about the Stirling Council Superbus being sold.

I was amazed to read that people wanted to save this dreadful, polluting vehicle.

A number of years ago I was forced to phone Stirling Council when it was sitting outside my house, pumping dangerous diesel fumes into the atmosphere for well over an hour. It was not a cold day. To be fair to the council, it was removed promptly.

Living near a primary school, I find parents have little regard for the health of their children when it comes to car pollution. Last Friday I counted six cars parked in the street outside the school with their engines running. This was a good 30 minutes before the children were due to finish for the day and is a daily occurrence.

It is time pollution levels outside schools during school run times were recorded as this affects residents and children.

Many parents do walk or cycle to school with their children and should be commended for this. However, they seem to be in a minority. I’m not sure what the law is on leaving your engine idling while you are parked but I feel these selfish people should be given a hefty fine.

Furthermore, why do children need a playbus there are plenty of parks in the area?
