Have say on boundary plans
People in the Stirling East ward are being encouraged to make their views known over potential re-drawing of community council boundaries.
While most community councils would see no change under the proposals, changes are being suggested for several of the bodies, particularly in areas such as Hillpark and Broomridge.
At a special Stirling Council meeting last Thursday it was agreed that the review in some areas warranted further consultation with residents. Under the proposals, a number of options have been suggested for Hillpark and Milton. As well as the status quo, another option is for the whole of that area to be returned to Bannockburn Community Council, while a third option is to move the area south of Glasgow Road to Borestone and shift an area north of Glasgow Road to Braehead. At the moment Hillpark and Milton has no returned community council.
Broomridge - which also currently has no returned community council - has a number of options including no change; to move the area south of Bannockburn Road to Borestone; or to move the area north of Bannockburn Road to Braehead.
Stirling East SNP councillor Alison Laurie is now urging people to add to the opinions already lodged about the changes.
She said:“The initial public consultation didn’t reach a conclusion about how changing community council boundaries can benefit communities, so further community drop-in sessions have been arranged to allow residents to have a look at the proposal options and give their views.
The sessions will be held between 4-7pm on July 25 at Mayfield Community Centre and July 26 at Hillpark Community Centre.
Also being suggested in the proposed boundary changes is that the Stirling University area could be moved from Bridge of Allan Community Council to Causewayhead, while the Manor Powis area could be moved to Logie Community Council from Cambuskenneth.
In the rural areas, there is only one proposal. Buchanan Castle Estate could be moved from Buchanan Community Council to Drymen. As part of the final phase of the consultation Stirling Council officers are carrying out additional consultation for boundaries for Buchanan, Drymen, Cambuskenneth, Logie, Hillpark and Broomridge community councils and a report will be submitted to a special meeting of the council on August 23.
