What are views on abhorrent UVF banner?

-

Dear Editor

I note with interest our city’s MP had plenty to say about the ‘Tory scum’ banner on a recent pro-independence march through Stirling (Observer , June 27, 2018) .

I would concede the word scum is a term of abuse too far, despite any grievances one might have, but juxtaposing it with a picture of people with no knowledge or involvement of the banner, including Bruce Crawford MSP, was also wrong. nationalists were out marching and blocking up the streets of Stirling he was in the real Bannockburn listening to concerns”.

I live in the “real” Bannockburn and Mr Kerr should remember that as an MP it is his duty to represent all his constituents fairly, not just those who support his Unionist viewpoint. He won his seat with a very slim majority – attacks on people who hold different views to him do him no credit.

He can’t only speak up for British Nationalists; independence movement supporters are entitled to fair representation too.

Lynn Fraser, Bannockburn

I would like to point out to Mr Kerr that I am not affiliated to the Independence movement/SNP as I know he seeks to use any unsavoury incident or behaviour to tarnish them.

I am Labour party member and have been critical of the SNP over the Offensive Behaviour at Football Grounds legislation, recently repealed.

Unfortunately for Mr Kerr and his party, even in their world of Pravdalike conspiracy theories it would be difficult to tag the Scottish Labour party as complicit in the ‘Tory Scum’ banner from last weekend .

Therefore, I would gladly welcome and be interested to hear his thoughts on the equally abhorrent banner UVF banner which was paraded through the city during a march last month.

I emailed Mr Kerr two days ago to elicit his thoughts on this matter but at the time of writing there has been no response as yet.”
