Kids can come in PJs for magical moon show

- Macrobert Arts Centre

An uplifting show which takes inspiration from a fairytale written by legendary Danish author Hans Christian Andersen is coming to the Macrobert Arts Centre later this month.

What the Moon Saw is described by promoters as a magical journey through the night – and it will take place at the venue on Saturday, July 28 and Sunday, July 29.

It is open to children over the age of three and young ones are even encouraged to come along in their pyjamas.

The story follows a young artist called Jack who is spending his first night alone in a new house.

Uneasy of the sounds and his surroundings he decides to sketch to comfort himself – however his pictures only appear in black and white.

Worried, he opens his bedroom curtains and finds the familiar face of the moon.

The moon teaches him to be brave and take on new adventures – before telling Jack about everything he’s seen and knows about the world.

From a dragon in China who is unable to breathe to a chimney sweep in London who dances on rooftops, some fascinating stories are shared.

And with the help of these stories Jack discovers that he is not alone in the world and his colourless sketches turn to colour.

The show will encourage audience interaction, and it features a whole host of secrets and surprises.

Tasmin Fitzgerald, artistic director of 2Faced Dance who are putting on the show, said that the show is one for all ages.

She said: “The audience can expect some new acrobatic skills performed by our incredibly versatile performers.

“We want to reach out to more young people than ever before and this is the perfect story to engage people of all ages.

“For this immersive theatrical experience, we ask children to come dressed in their pyjamas and we will encourage them to join in.

“Fidgeting, cheering and clapping – it will all be allowed during What the Moon Saw.”

There will be an opportunity to stay behind after the show and get creative with the cast.

Tickets are £8.50 or £30 wee group saver for four people. For more contact the Macrobert Box Office on 01786 466666 or go to >>>macrobertartscentre.org.
