Albion bring in goalkeeper on loan

-

Stirling Albion have made goalkeeper Calum Ferrie their fifth new signing of the summer in a loan deal from Dundee until January.

The 20-year-old joins Jordan Allan, Kevin Fell, Danny Jardine and Mark Stewart at Forthbank ahead of the 2018/19 season.

Ferrie was previously with Port Vale before moving to Dens Park in 2016. He made his first-team debut for the Dark Blues as a substitute against Rangers at Ibrox in April of this year.

Binos boss Dave Mackay said:“He’s a good, young goalkeeper from what I’ve seen and is extremely well thought of at Dundee.

“It’s great competition for Cammy Binnie and I expect them both to battle it out for the No.1 jersey.

“Calum will probably get a chance in one of the friendlies but he obviously won’t be available for the first game against Dundee in the Betfred Cup so Cammy will play that one and we’ll make a decision after seeing them both in competitive games.”

Mackay expects last season’s second-top scorer Peter MacDonald to sign a new contract this week and is also close to finalising a deal to bring in another attacking player.

He said:“We are still working on a few things – we are still a little bit light in the midfield area and we also need a defender with Darren Barr out for a month or so.”

One player who won’t be at Forthbank next season is Liam Caddis.

The ex-St Johnstone midfielder had recently agreed a new contract but has now moved on.

Caddis was a key part of the side in the early part of 2017/18 but dropped out of the starting line-up after the New Year defeat at Stenhousemuir and was used only as a substitute in the months that followed before being recalled for the Peterhead play-off games.

A statement on the club website read:“For nonfootball-related personal reasons, Liam Caddis will not, as previously intimated, be re-signing with Stirling Albion for the coming season. Liam leaves with our best wishes and our thanks for his contribution during his time with the club.”

Meanwhile, full-back Ewan McNeil has joined leading Junior side Pollok after being released by Albion in May. The former Rangers, Brechin City and Berwick Rangers defender was brought in from Clyde last summer and only missed one game but wasn’t part of the plans for 2018/19.
