Celebrating golden years
Bannockburn Amateurs are celebrating their 50th anniversary season in 201819.
And the successful Stirling side will be kicking off their birthday year with festival of football and fun at Ladywell Park on Saturday, July 21 from 11am.
There will be several fun fours teams, the club’s under 15s will play Riverside, the charity outfit of ex-pros Dukla Pumpherston will take on Bannockburn’s old crocks and the current team will play St Joseph’s.
Later in the day the club is hosting a get together in McQs for invited guests, ex-players and regular supporters.
After reminiscing, including a question and answer hosted by Chic Grant, there will be entertainment from Brian Cattigan.
Committee member Drew Ferry thanked volunteers – especially former players – who helped track down people from across the globe.
The club have been in touch with the first-ever team, cup winning squads and committees.
In addition to the main events, the club commissioned a 50th anniversary crest from Stirling’s Vizibility Design which includes a star for each of the club’s three Scottish Amateur Cup wins.
All teams will also wear special retro strip adorned with the anniversary crest which will be available to purchase by the club’s fans.
Club president Robert Beaton is currently curating a book while throughout the season, Bannockburn will also use the year to raise money for local good causes.
A special 50th anniversary speakers night will be held on Friday, September 28 featuring Peter Martin, Alan Rough and Eric Davidson, plus a surprise ‘Burn legend.
