Man had £400 of heroin in shop

- Court reporter

A Plean man who was caught with £400 worth of heroin at a frozen food shop in Stirling has been jailed.

Greig Forsyth, of Wallace Crescent, was found to be concerned in the supply of the Class A drug to others or another while at the Iceland store on Pitt Terrace.

The 28-year-old was searched by police at around 3.20pm on February 6 and a quantity of drugs were found.

Officers discovered two bags of brown powder in his shorts, and after tests were carried out this was revealed to be 7.71 grams of heroin with a value of £400.

Fiscal depute Lindsey Brooks told Stirling Sheriff Court this week that Forsyth said in his police interview shortly afterwards that he was planning to take the drugs to someone in Plean.

Defence solicitor Ken Dalling said: “He said he was working off a drug debt and was asked to transport this, as disclosed, to a ‘boy in Plean’.”

The court also heard that four paper wraps and four foil wraps containing heroin were found on Forsyth during the search.

Mr Dalling added: “He has made efforts to rehabilitate himself. He has sought to come off heroin and is now subject to a methadone prescription.

“He continues to live with his partner who is the mother of his child. He indicates that he is of significant strength to her.”

He asked Sheriff Wyllie Robertson to consider imposing a drug treatment and testing order assessment on Forsyth.

Sheriff Robertson said however: “I am not persuaded that a drug treatment and testing order assessment is appropriate.

“You have a record for analogous offending and in these circumstances you know the risk you carry and seriousness with which the court views such matters.”

He was sent to prison for a period of nine months.
