Highland Games spotlight on Killin
Visitors from all around the world will flock to Killin’s annual Highland Games showpiece next week.
The event will take place in Breadalbane Park on Wednesday – and is one of the only midweek events of its kind going.
Organisers say there will be a host of fun and entertainment for families to enjoy while the heavyweight events are expected to be high-calibre.
Events begin at 10am with a piping performance before the heavy competitions get underway at midday.
At this time registration will also be open for the hill race which will take place at 2.30pm.
Throughout the afternoon there will also be dancing and piping competitions, a range of side shows, stalls and a beer tent.
Chieftain Jamie McNab of Clan McNab will lead the parade from the Falls of Dochart to the games field to officially open the event at 1pm.
Around 2500 people are expected to attend the event and chairman Charlie Grant is looking forward to another stellar year at the Killin Highland Games.
He said: “We’re expecting a bumper year with visitors of all nationalities coming along. Those competing in the events also come from a number of different countries to test their strength here and we’re expecting a real high calibre of competition.
“There are only ourselves and a couple of others who do midweek games so we hope it gives people visiting the area something really good to do next Wednesday - we’ve got a lot going on.”
Still to take place this summer are the popular highland games events at Bridge of Allan and Stirling.
Bridge of Allan Highland Games will be held in Strathallan Games Field on Sunday, August 5 with events kicking off from 10am.
Stirling Highland Games will arrive at the Stirling Sports Village on Saturday, August 18 – and things will get underway there from 11.30am.
