Bracklinn Falls tombstoner

-

Another victim of the tombstoning craze at a Stirling beauty spot has come forward to warn others of the dangers.

Dad of two Gordon Bayne smashed his leg in five places after jumping from 30ft into the pool at the Bracklinn Falls near Callander.

The self employer roofer (34) cannot walk and has not been able to work since the accident last month.

It is too early to say if he will get the full function in his leg back.

Earlier this month the Observer reported on a Glasgow woman Claire Graham who issued a similar warning after she had smashed her foot in 30 places when she hit a rock after jumping into the water at the Falls of Falloch near Crianlarich last July.

Gordon, from Larbert, had followed youngsters who had been jumping from the same spot on June 2.

A rescue operation had to be carried out when Gordon landed on a rocky floor of the pool by the falls.

He explained: “I had been jumping from a 10ft spot then decided to go to the higher jump.

“I’d been going in head first, but this time I’d kept my vertical position – which they call ‘tombstoning’ and it saved my life.”

He returned to the surface in shock. It took two hours for Killin Mountain Rescue Team to tackle the tricky conditions to reach Gordon.
