Strong show by multi-event youngsters

-

Central AC youngsters Robb Ferguson, Brogan MacMillan and Ellen Montgomery put their allround skills to the test at Grangemouth when they contested the pentathlon at the Scottish Combined Events Championship.

Robb took on the under-13 boys event and in his first ever pentathlon, he started with an excellent 1.33m at high jump for third, followed this with a personal best 13.00s in the 75m hurdles to move up to second and added a second PB, this time in the shot with 6.24m.

A near PB 4.11m at long jump saw him in third going into the final event - the 800m - but with only 80 points separating second to fifth.

He ran a strong 2:49.27 PB but with the top two athletes finishing ahead of him and a strong run from the athlete in fourth place this unfortunately meant Robb just missed out on the medals. However he can be proud of his fourth place finish in a PB score of 1394 points.

Brogan and Ellen competed in the under-13 girls event. Brogan set a PB 1.24m at high jump and came close to her best in the shot with 5.56m and 800m with 2:42.28 to smash her PB score with 1574 points for 14th place to finish in the top half against a high standard field of 28 athletes.

In the under-15s, Ellen set a PB in the 800m with 2:52.22 and was close to PBs in the 75m hurdles with 14.73s and long jump with 3.75m to set a best ever overall score of 1731 points for a respectable 15th place.
