Brexit deal is the focus for new pressure group

- Kaiya Marjoribanks

A new Stirling group is to campaign for a people’s vote on the final Brexit deal.

The group, which was started in Bridge of Allan, will be setting out their stall in Stirling city centre on Saturday, August 11.

They say the only way to move forward amidst the current Brexit confusion is to allow people to head back to the ballot box.

SpokespersonVictoria Lee said:“When the UK voted overall for Brexit, it was without knowing what it would mean. Now the crunch is coming and Parliament is too confused and too evenly divided to choose between a hard, a soft or any other form of Brexit. The only solution is to let the people decide whether the final terms are acceptable or not.”

Among local families affected by the prospect of Brexit are the Duncans of Bridge of Allan.

All three of Catriona and Alastair’s children have benefited from the opportunity to study and work within the EU.

Their son Kenneth, his wife and their two daughters have taken Belgian nationality as a way of safeguarding their future. Their other son, Robin, works in Spain. He could apply for Spanish nationality but if he does so he will lose his UK citizenship because Spain does not allow for dual nationality.

All the family, including Alastair’s sister and her French husband and family, enjoyed the Bridge of Allan games on Saturday.

“We just hope,” said Alastair,“that our Scottish grandchildren will have the same opportunities as our children had.”
