Noticeboar­d The noticeboar­d is outside the CAP/library. Anyone who wants to use it can see the notice board for details. Community council There are currently three vacancies on the community council and applicatio­ns are invited from Alva residents. The community council meets on the second Monday of each month at 7.30pm. Applicatio­n forms and guidance notes are available from: Alva Community Access Point (CAP) and Higglety Pigglety shop in Alva or email: info@alvacommun­itycouncil. org.uk. Completed applicatio­ns, addressed to the Secretary of Alva Community Council by Monday, August 27 to any of the above or the postal address on the guidance notes. The decision on filling these vacancies will be made at the community council meeting on Monday, September 10 which the public are welcome to attend. If the number of volunteer applicatio­ns does not exceed the three vacancies all will be co-opted on to the community council provided eligibilit­y criteria is met. In the event that there are more eligible applicatio­ns than vacancies an open vote will be taken by current elected community councillor­s.

Miners Welfare Social Club Bingo on Mondays and Wednesdays at 8pm. Community council Meets in Bannockbur­n Community Centre on the first Thursday of each month at 7pm. Stirling Christadel­phian Church Bible hour is held on Sunday from 2.15pm with Sunday school at the same time. Allan Church Sunday service is at 11.15am led by Rev Ken Russell with Welcome Team Five on duty. All welcome. Creche available. Summer Sunday school takes place at the start of the service. If you can help with the summer Sunday School by supervisin­g the children while they watch a film then please speak to Kirsty MacGowan (Sunday school superinten­dent). Champions Summer Holiday Club and Fun Day for all Bannockbur­n P1-7 from August 8-10 at Allan Church and August 11 at Murrayfiel­d UF Church from 10am-noon each day. There will be games, crafts, stories and lots of fun. Tea-in-the-Park walking group meets on Friday at 2.30pm in the car park of Ladywell Park for a stroll, a seat, and a cup of tea and chat. Sunday’s service will be led by Rev Gary Barclay at 10.30am. The welcome team is Jean Bell and Jan Cross; the offering team is Jane and Derek Robertson. The kirk session meets in the church hall on Monday, August 13 at 7.30pm and Thursday, August 16 at 7.30pm is your chance to depose the Post Office team as Community Quiz champions. Come as a team of four-six people or come on your own and some smart team-mates will be found for you! The quiz night is in the church hall. Bowling club Friday night bingo and joker draw. On Saturday there is a home game against Borestone. Entertainm­ent on Saturday, August 25, entry £3. All welcome.

Lunch club Meets on Wednesdays in the Crawford Hall, Colquhoun Street, 1-3pm. Community garden Membership­s are available at www.braehead.org/ garden or drop in any Tuesday or Saturday between 10.30am and noon to find out more. Stirling North Parish Church Going Bananas Holiday Club continues this week until Friday, August 10 from 10am-noon. Fun, games, craft and great bible stories. All P1-P7 children welcome. On Friday from the All Going Bananas Holiday Club children and parents social evening takes place, Lots of fun as well as refreshmen­ts with homebaking. Sunday service is at 10.30am; there is no evening service.

\Bridge of Allan

Parish Church Sunday worship will take the form of a Songs of Praise service at 11am and this will be led by the worship group. There will be a creche, and for those of primary school age there is “Church in the Corner”. Coffee fellowship takes place in the Chalmers Hall afterwards. Summer Sundays continue with a visit to the Engine Shed. Admission is free, meet outside the Engine Shed at 2pm. Summer coffee mornings continue on Saturday from 10am-noon in the Chalmers Hall. Proceeds this year will be split between Maggie’s Centre and the MS Therapy Centre. To mark the 150th anniversar­y of the birth of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the church will be open to visitors from 10am-noon on Saturdays during July and August. Members and visitors may wish to view the Mackintosh furnishing­s and the Stephen Adams stained glass windows. The deadline for the September/October magazine is 10am on Monday, August 13. St Saviour’s Episcopal Church 8am Eucharist, 10am sung Eucharist. Young Church and creche take place in the church hall then join the main service later. Coffee/ tea are served in the church hall after the 10am service. Wednesdays 11am in the choir vestry - a quiet, peaceful Eucharist service with coffee/ tea afterwards. Eucharist today (Wednescele­bration Sunday day) will be conducted by Rev Canon Dr Alison Peden. Lecropt Kirk Sunday worship commences at 11.30am. There is no official Sunday school but children are most welcome in church. Welcome team: Gerry Petrie, Carolyn Jones and Janet Craigie.
