Readers sick of cinema rip-off

-

We have been flooded with comments on social media about the stories in our last two Wednesday issues about the price of tickets at the Vue Cinema in Stirling.

People going to the Vue at Forthside are paying up to £7 more a ticket than those visiting the chain’s cinemas in Aberdeen, Hamilton, Livingston and Inverness. Even prices at the Vue’s cinemas in Edinburgh and Glasgow are cheaper.

The Vue say the differences reflect a “dynamic pricing policy” but here’s what you had to say:

Kirstie Speed posted: “My sister has just taken seven kids and granny to the Vue. We decided on the Vue rather than Perth cinema due to the Monday supersaver offer. I am disgusted that due to it being a ‘bank holiday’ they were charged £7.49 for a children’s movie rather than £3.99. We had cost the trip as £35.91 but instead were charged £67.41. I am so disgusted.”

LK St John was also unhappy about her visits to the Vue. She said: “They never have milk for tea even though there are four supermarkets literally within five minutes and in my experience the toilets are always a disgrace and very often out of toilet paper. Sound quality is awful as they often put a loud, bangy film next door to a quiet one. I’m talking from someone who used to go every week ... and as someone who worked in cinema years ago. I just don’t see how they get away with it.”

John Martin: “Cinema tickets are too expensive: £13.75 to see Ant man in Dunfermline last night. When you factor in the two adults and “teen” (why not kids) prices your looking at little change from £50, and that’s before you’ve even got to refreshments. If I wait a few weeks I can have it on download or Blu Ray from a number of outlets for less than 20 quid. I like going to the cinema because I think the big screen adds something to the movie experience but at those prices the garage conversion with a 150 inch screen and 4K projector is looking like a cost effective option.”

Susan Walmsley added: “I go on Mondays and make use of their’super Mondays’ codes for £3.99 a ticket. And I find their ‘snack it’ boxes a great deal for the kids, popcorn, juice and a sweet for £3.79 or you get three items of food or drink for a tenner.”

Garry Samson: “The Vue always has been a complete rip off. An extortionate rate to listen to other people eat food and chat to each other. The Vue’s excuse of ‘dynamic pricing’ is the definition of ‘we are fleecing you.’”
