Live entertainment right on your doorstep

- Various venues

Throughout the month of August many people will be flocking to the capital for their fix of live entertainment as the Edinburgh Fringe Festival returns.

However there’s plenty going on closer to home too with a packed programme of shows and performances planned for the Tolbooth, Albert Halls and Macrobert.

So those who would rather stay in Stirling and enjoy all this city has to offer don’t need to worry about missing out.

On Friday and Saturday (August 10 and 11) there will be a production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the Macrobert.

Dunblane’s Rubber Chicken Theatre, who are famous for their ‘show in a week’ productions, will be putting the performance on complete with a talented cast, full orchestra and stunning costumes.

At the same venue on Thursday, August 23, there will be a dynamic show based on Shakespeare’s The Merry Wives of Windsor.

Falstaff, staged by Opera Bohemia, follows the adventures of Sir John Falstaff – an unlikely hero whose attempts to seduce women for their husband’s money are nothing but farcical.

In Stirling city centre the Tolbooth will open its doors for a special summer ceilidh on Wednesday, August 15, before The Gary Innes Band take to the stage eight days later. Gary is a Highland-born accordionist and one of the founding members of Scottish super-group Manran.

The following evening, on August 24, there will be a jazz showpiece with Rose Room and Konrad Wiszniewski performing.

Falkirk musician and songwriter Adam Stafford will play to an audience at the venue on August 30, and on the following evening ‘Unknown Soldier’ – a moving, thought-provoking theatre piece, will have audiences gripped.

At the Albert Halls the famous music of Frankie Vally and the Four Seasons will be celebrated during ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry’ on August 24.

Russian String Orchestra, complete with some of the country’s finest young string players, will then perform on Sunday, August 26, under the creative baton of founder and musical director Misha Rachlevsky.

And finally, on August 31, Scotland’s most celebrated fiddle outfit ‘Blazin Fiddles’ will be joined by Karen Matheson as they celebrate their 20th birthday with a special show at the venue.
