Pedal to power up day of sports cinema
Sports fans of all ages will saddle up and pedal to power a projector when a special ‘Cycle Cinema’ comes to Stirling this weekend.
The innovative event will be held in the courtyard next to The Engine Shed in Forthside on Sunday (August 12).
There will be big-screen, live coverage of the Glasgow 2018 European Championships along with sports-themed documentaries and short films.
The day is being run by the Macrobert and volunteers will be sought by organisers to help generate the power required for the cinema screen using the power in their own legs.
However there will also be plenty of opportunity for people to simply kick back and enjoy the action if they don’t quite feel up to the pedal challenge.
The European Championships, which is in its first year in the current format, is a multi-sports event featuring aquatics, cycling, gymnastics, rowing and triathlon. The athletics will be taking place in Berlin.
Governing bodies for each sport have co-ordinated their own continental championships so they all take place as part of the summer event.
The daytime Cycle Cinema event is free to attend and will run from 10.30am to 4.30pm.
In the evening a special feature documentary called Time Trial will be shown. This follows former British national road champion cyclist David Millar as he takes on the Tour de France one last time.
The evening event kicks off at 6pm and tickets are priced at £8, £7 concessions and £6 for students.
The event is being supported by Stirling Council and Historic Environment Scotland. Go to macrobertartscentre.org for more information.
