Nine years since Stirling last victory over Wasps

- David Ogilvie

Stirling Albion are seeking their first win over Alloa Athletic since 2009 when the sides go head to head in the first round of the Irn-Bru Cup.

The match will be played at the Indodrill Stadium on Tuesday, kick-off 7.45pm.

The Wasps will be favourites to progress to the second round on the weekend of September 8/9 but the Binos will be aiming to cause an upset against Jim Goodwin’s team.

The clubs last crossed paths in a competitive game in August 2014, when the Wasps won 1-0 in a League Cup tie at Recreation Park and 2-1 at Forthbank in the Challenge Cup a fortnight later.

If Tuesday’s tie is level after 90 minutes it will go straight to penalties.

There are 24 first-round games in midweek and the winners will be joined in round two by Boreham Wood, Sutton United, Coleraine, Crusaders, The New Saints, Connah’s Quay, Sligo Rovers and Bohemians.

Stirling Albion have their first home game of the season tomorrow against Clyde, who were one of the pre-season favourites for the title.

And McBookie.com make the Bully Wee favourites for the points at 7/5.

Albion are 13/8 and the draw is 11/4.

First scorers this week include Peter MacDonald at 6/1 and Mark Stewart at 13/2.
