Countytie withrivals

-

Stirling County and Dumfries tied for the second time this season – keeping the New Williamfield side in third spot in Western Union Premier Division.

In a rain-hit match in June, the players tied when Stirling failed to score the winning run off the final delivery.

On Saturday, roles were reversed as County deprived bottom team Dumfries.

Stirling skipper Matthew Tweedie won the toss and decided to bat first.

And it was Tweedie who led from the front with 111 not out as County made 237 for eight from their allotted 50 overs. Akash Rawal scored 46.

In reply, Dumfries overseas amateur Jesse Smith was top scorer with 85 and Andrew Dawson 46 as they made 237 for nine giving both sides 15 points. Tom Bradburn was the pick of Stirling’s bowlers with four for 28.

On Saturday, County meet Greenock at New Williamfield in their final home fixture of the season. They complete their league fixtures at West of Scotland on August 25.

Stirling 2nds look destined for relegation to Western Union Division Three after a poor performance at home to Dumfries 2nds on Saturday.

Despite taking a wicket off the first ball of the match, 44 wides and three no balls helped the visitors to 279 all out, with Mike Philip taking three for 45.

Stirling were never in the hunt and a number of batsmen were out to poor shots and Vamsi Machana’s 32 was the only score of note in their 119 all out total.

Sitting second bottom, the 2nds have two fixtures – on Saturday at home against league leaders St Michaekls, who can clinch the title, and on August 25 away to secondplaced Kilmarnock.

Rain saw Sunday’s XI’s Strathmore and Perthshire Union match at Breadalbane cancelled. This weekend they play host to Callander.
