Swim star Duncan is a real golden boy

-

Stirling University swimmer Duncan Scott added a relay gold to his ever-growing collection on the final night of the European Championships last week at the Tollcross pool in Glasgow.

The 21 year-old from Alloa had already won gold in the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay with Calum Jarvis, Thomas Dean and James Guy and a silver in the 100m freestyle behind Italy’s Alessandro Miresi plus a sensational individual gold in the 200m final.

No-one gave him much chance from lane eight but roared on by the home crowd, he stunned the rest of the finalists to win in 1.45.34.

A third gold of the meet came in the 4x100m medley relay, swimming the anchor leg behind Nicky Pyle, Adam Peaty and James Guy. Elsewhere, triathlete Marc Austin — who trains at Stirling University — saw his hopes disappear when he had a nasty fall off his bike.

Marc recovered to finish in 35 th place, but told his fans on Twitter:“Real shame not to perform how I had envisioned on Friday at Strathclyde but the support was amazing.

“A bone fracture I picked up in the crash means that I’m unsure of when I’ll next race, but I’ll be back as soon as I can.”

On the golf course at Gleneagles, graduate Catriona Matthew and her partner Holly Clyburn were one win away from the semi-finals after two victories, but went down 2up to the Sweden 3 pairing of Casja Persson and Linda Wessberg who went on to take gold.

Also performing was Central AC and Forth Valley Orienteer Fanni Gyurko who ran in the ladies’marathon in Berlin on Sunday. Competing for her native Hungary, Fanni finished in 40th place.
