Stunning Castle backdrop gets thumbs up from Runrig revellers

-

The two farewell Runrig gigs proved to be a winner with concert–goers.

The final shows from the Celtic rockers were staged in the shadow of Stirling Castle on Friday and Saturday.

Around 45,000 superfans of the iconic group turned out to enjoy their final appearances.

Stirling Observer readers took to our Facebook page to voice their opinions the two events.

Vickie Warrington said:“Such a friendly atmosphere with people of all ages there. Loved it. Great venue and brilliant being within walking distance of Cambusbarron. Having the castle as the backdrop made it more special and fantastic fireworks ended a fantastic show.”

Graeme Mair added:“Will be an interesting debate whether Stirling should host regular concerts on that scale in that location. Undoubted positives such as footfall and prestige for the city, and makes for a fantastic setting with the iconic castle, weighed against the road closures and hassle.

“I’m personally all for future events bringing in the tourists. I wonder if the event falling on the same day as the Highland games was a bonus or a negative too?”

Alva man, John Glass, said:“Well I have just witnessed the final Runrig concert. It was an absolutely fantastic and magical moment to experience.

“Musically and performance wise all this concert served to do was pose the huge question. Why? This is a band that are clearly still right at the top of their game. Sadly time just does not stop for no one and I guess the body tells you when it’s time.”

Louise Halliday posted:“Great to see the pubs were full beforehand with people eating and drinking. The concert was brilliant – such a great vibe despite the intermittent rain. The guitar silhouette solo on the castle wall was outstanding. What a breathtaking sight for our visitors. The crowd softly singing Hearts of Olden Glory at the end whilst the fireworks were on was haunting. Despite the road closures Stirling should be promoting this site as a future venue to generate business.”

Moira Heuer said:“Went to the concert on Saturday, Runrig were brilliant and the venue with the castle in background was amazing.”
