School to benefit from Gartmore 10k
Gartmore 10k will return for the second time next month.
The second running of the Gartmore 10k and Fun Run takes place in the village on Sunday, September 9.
The 10k event takes in the nearby Loch Ard Forest and is open to people of all fitness levels aged 16 years and older.
The fun run is open to all ages, but under 11s must be accompanied by a responsible person.
The 10k route starts in the heart of Gartmore village and runs along Freuchan Lane into the Wee Wood and from there crosses over the field and into Loch Ard Forest. From there it’s a circular route with good views of the Menteith Hills and Ben Lomond. The route is mainly run along forest fire tracks and a few short connecting forest footpaths and pastureland which can be muddy in wet weather. Entry costs £10. The starting point for the fun run is the same as the 10k, running along Freuchan Lane into the Wee Wood. It then crosses over the bridge and follows the Blarnabord track back to the public road returning to Gartmore. Entry for the fun run is made on the day and is £5.
The organisers have reported an increased registration on last year’s event. Clair Evans said: “We already have 64 people signed up and entries are still open. Last year we had a total of 15 runners, so the numbers are very healthy.”
A total of 75 entrants can take part in the 10k.
The races are being hosted by the parents’ association of Gartmore Primary, known as The Gartmore School Partnership, and is a fundraising event for Gartmore Primary School. Funds are used to support extracurricular activities and learning equipment for the children.
