Murray back with bang as he downs Duckworth

-

Andy Murray was back in Grand Slam action on Monday - and got off to a flier with a four-set win over Australian James Duckworth.

The Dunblane ace is playing his first Grand Slam event of the year - indeed his first since Wimbledon 2017 and he was delighted to reach the second round.

Duckworth took the first set on a tie break but Murray then won the next three to go through to the next round, where he will face Fernando Verdasco.

“I actually felt like I could have moved better. I struggled a little bit with that earlier in the match,”Murray said afterwards. “The positive was that actually towards the end of the match, I made some quite good moves.

“Like the second to the last point of the match, I moved pretty quickly up to the drop volley and stuff and kind of maintained my serving speeds throughout the match, as well.

“So there was some good stuff, but I think I can get better.”

Both players have battled injury over the past 18 months but after three hours and 17 minutes, it was Murray who came through.

Overall he was too solid for the world No 448, making just 29 unforced errors in the match.

In the doubles, big brother Jamie and Bruno Soares are seed number four and face Argentine’s Guido Pella and Spain’s Albert Ramos-Vinolas in round one.
