Deanston development up for discussion
A housing development proposed for Deanston is to come before Stirling councillors next week.
Gladman Developments Ltd are seeking planning permission in principle to develop land next to and west of Deanston Community Centre on James Smith Road.
However, the site is not included in the Local Development Plan and Stirling Council planners are recommending refusal of the bid.
While the proposal, due before the council’s planning panel on Tuesday, does not include detailed features, the developers have drawn up a masterplan suggesting up to 65 homes could be created.
Kilmadock Community Council has objected to the application on grounds of road safety, school capacity, drainage and contravention of Development Plan policy.
A total of 42 individual objections and one representation have also been submitted.
While Gladman have acknowledged the development does not conform to the LDP, they are bringing the plans forward as a “windfall”development – a non-allocated site that may nonetheless contribute to the housing land supply.
In their report due before Tuesday’s panel meeting, council planners say, on balance, the proposed development is contrary to both the LDP and proposed LDP, adding:“There are no other substantial material considerations that would offset these objections therefore the recommendation is to oppose this application.”
