Push for solutions on parking

- Staff reporter

People in Stirling’s rural areas are being encouraged to make their views known on parking.

The first wave of consultations on Stirling Council’s new Community Parking Management Plan started this week, with city centre residents the first to be asked their opinions.

However, consultations are to be launched throughout the area from next week onwards.

Trossachs and Teith Tory councillor Jeremy McDonald said:“There are communities like Doune that really need some solutions to major parking problems. They should be right at the top of the list for this work, especially as a lot of progress was made with some meetings on the subject earlier this year and it now looks as if they are going to have to wait in line rather than getting some changes that could deliver improvements alleviate Doune’s extreme parking pressures.”

Fellow Tory councillor Martin Earl added:“I welcome this comprehensive approach by officers and hope as many people as possible get involved. I would suggest there are some initiatives that could be put in place very quickly that would not adversely affect any other proposals. For example why not make Station Road car park in Callander free for an initial period? This will help with access to the Post Office and other shops in the town.

“A decision on this could be taken now rather than wait for Callander’s turn in the consultation queue.”
