High standard at Buchanan

The 72nd Buchanan Flower Show on Saturday in the Memorial Hall was well supported by the community with entries of a high standard.

Afternoon tea was served by the flower show committee and afterwards a raffle in aid of Robin House was held. The show, which was hailed a great success, concluded with an auction of entries.

Ruth Macpherson, a former teacher at Buchanan Primary School, gave the opening address and also presented the prizes to the winners. Results Children’s classes (judge: Emma best exhibit age eight and under - Anna Fraser; best exhibit age nine-14 - Martha Townsend; best exhibit classes 8-9 - Anna Fraser; best exhibit classes 1012 - Jack Ronald; best exhibit in artwork - Roderick McCall Smith; Poster Cup for best show poster Beth Ronald, runners-up Martha Townsend, Lucy Ronald and Anna Fraser; Gwen Boag Memorial Cup for paper mache craft - Beth Ronald; Andy Simpson Memorial Cup for most points in children’s classes - Martha Townsend; Tom Fraser Memorial Cup for best exhibit in children’s classes - Jack Ronald; Junior Baking Cup - Beth Ronald; Buchanan Supreme Cup (arrangemen­t for a busy teenager) - Elizabeth Townsend.

Fruit, flower and vegetable classes (judge: David McIntyre): Montrose Cup for most points in fruit, vegetable, flower classes - Duncan McFadyen; James Fraser Memorial Cup for most points in vegetable classes - Duncan McFadyen; Dr Iain McLaren Cup for most points in cut flower classes - Duncan McFadyen; Halley Cup for most points in roses classes - Duncan McFadyen.
