Six-hit Castle see off derby rivals Thistle

-

Doune Castle .. 6 Callander Th .. 1

After a goalless first half Doune stormed to a convincing derby win with a ruthless second-half display.

A missed first-half penalty and finding themselves a goal behind early in the second period failed to unsettle an impressive Castle side, who took all three Caledonian League Division 1A points.

Lukasz Duszynski missed the penalty, with Ghattas pulling off an exceptional save, and the teams were goalless at the break.

Against the run of play Callander edged into a 1-0 lead after 48 minutes with a powerful header high into the net from 10 yards.

Doune equalised after 53 minutes through Robert Purves and Alan Inglis gave them the lead in 65 minutes.

Duszynski drilled an unstoppable shot past Ghattas from 18 yards to make it 3-1 and Sean Wilbert made it four after 79 minutes.

Two goals in added time through Duszynski and Purves sealed the win.

On Saturday Castle dropped two league points when Milngavie Wanderers snatched a dramatic equaliser with the game’s final kick.

Doune had squandered a 2-0 lead and were bemused by the six minutes of additional time played.

Duszynski made it 1-0 from the penalty spot after 32 minutes after Alan Inglis had been brought down and he set up Purves for the second on the hour mark.

Just as Doune looked to have the game under control, Milngavie pulled one back after 76 minutes.

As the game entered added time Milngavie threw caution to the wind and piled bodies forward.

With the clock showing 96 minutes, a Milngavie player lobbed the ball over Callum Haig and it dropped just under the bar to nestle into the far corner to make it 2-2.

The referee immediately blew the final whistle as Milngavie celebrated the unlikely point they had salvaged.
