Big boost for BofA as sponsor signs up

Allanwater Brewhouse cash to cover season 18/19

- Donald Morton

Bridge of Allan Sports Club’s squash teams have received a massive boost ahead of the new East of Scotland campaign after The Allanwater Brewhouse agreed to become the club’s new team sponsor.

The four-figure deal will cover the season 2018/19 and sees the Brewhouse provide state-of-the-art team wear, also becoming involved as a special events caterer and underpin the Minewood club’s attempt to add some star quality to their playing ranks as they look to make a consolidated title challenge in the East of Scotland Division One.

Club president Walter McAllister said: “Firstly a huge thanks to The Brewhouse and owner Douglas Ross as our new squash teams sponsor. We think it really is the perfect fit and what is particularly pleasing is that we have a real Bridge of Allan institution coming on board.”

He continued: “This type of backing from a respected local business that has been established in Bridge of Allan since 1996 really reflects on the progress of our journey as a sports club as well. Everyone at Minewood is really excited about the new season ahead and this sponsorship deal really will make it a case of watch this space as we countdown to the new campaign at the beginning of October.”

For his part Brewhouse boss Ross was particularly pleased to renew links to the club which he has had a long association with.

“This really is like the rekindling of an old flame for me. I go back along way with Bridge of Allan Sports Club having been involved with the club’s legendary Fluids touring team of the 80s and 90s. I have looked on keenly as the club has become resurgent and now I just thought it was the perfect time to come on board.”

He added: “The club’s squash teams achieved so much back in the 80s when they dominated Scottish squash with legends like John McGhee, Costas Yarrow and Peter Fairley, and it has just been fabulous to see the club resurgent in the pages of the Stirling Observer.

“For me on a personal note I am really excited to position The Allanwater Brewhouse as the Bridge of Allan Sports Club squash team sponsor, as everyone knows squash players are thirsty creatures and I am sure we can help address that!”

The new sponsorship deal has created a war chest that has significantly boosted the club’s hope of installing a major name as the club’s new No.1 Squash convener Bert Mitchell is understood to be in advanced talks to land a member of Scotland’s European championship bronze medal winning team to the apex of the Minewood line-up.

Meanwhile there are also plans for The Brewhouse to create a special beer to commemorate the Minewood club’s 1889 founding year.

Dunblane Squash Club coach Maureen Carroll recently took part in the World Masters in Charlottesville, Virginia, where she came seventh in her age group,
