A weekend of top jazz and blue music is to return to Callander for a must-see music festival.

The Callander Jazz and Blues Festival rolls into the town later this month with a host of top musicians flocking to 15 venues.

As the largest rural jazz and blues festival in Scotland, the Callander shindig is firmly established on the UK festival map.

Now in its 13th year, the festival will feature up to 200 musicians ensuring a top weekend of entertainment.

First held back in 2006, the festival has grown every year, with this year’s event showcasing more than 50 gigs at 15 venues.

There will be performances of live jazz, blues, soul and boogie over three days from Friday, September 28, until Sunday, September 30 – and the event is expected to bring around 5000 music fans to the town over the weekend.

Welsh group The Jiveoholics, will perform at McLaren High on the Friday at 9.30pm. They also play at the school again on Saturday at 1.30pm.

Jive band The Revolutionaires have performed at the previous 12 editions of the event and will take to the stage at McLaren High at 7pm on Saturday and again at 3pm on Sunday.

Top jive group King Pleasure and the Biscuit Boys will take to the stage at McLaren High from 9.30pm and then again at noon on Sunday.

Among the other performers at Callander over the three-day spectacular this year are Swing Sensation; Uncle Red; Jim Crumley; The Nigel Price Trio; The Penman Jazzmen ; Swingology; Carl Tjader Latin Jazz Project and Jenny McClure and Stirling Crisis.

McLaren High School Swing Band will also appear.

Event director Graham Oliphant said: “We started this in 2006 and it has grown every single year. We have been planning this year’s event since the minute we finished last year and it’s hard to believe that we have less than a month to go now.

“It should be a great weekend with some of the top musicians across the country performing at a host of venues across the town.”
