Fears for children at unfinished playpark
Temporary fencing fails to keep out youngsters
Safety fears have been raised over the state of a Stirling playpark following delays in installing new equipment.
Stirling East Tory councillor Bryan Flannagan has concerns about the delayed works at Afton Court playpark in Braehead.
The upgrade for the park began in early August with completion planned for the last week of the school summer holidays.
It is understood that four trampolines were to be installed plus a climbing stack.
Councillor Flannagan said after the discovery that two key components were missing, construction was postponed until the end of September.
He said that Stirling Council used a European based manufacturer to supply the components who had only been able to install two of the trampolines.
Temporary fencing was put in place but has proved “completely inadequate” in preventing access to the area where works are only partially completed. This has caused concern amongst residents that the park is unsafe and may result in injury to children if they try to use the equipment.
Councillor Flannagan added: “You cannot blame children for trying to access the equipment but it’s not safe and the fencing erected is useless.
“The council needs to demand the contractors get the job finished as quickly as possible and ensure access is impossible until it is
“This saga does a complete disservice to the community council and the population who have fought hard for improvements that were desperately needed.”
A Stirling Council spokesperson said: “Temporary industry standard safety fencing was placed around a section of the site to prohibit use while awaiting delivery of parts.
“The contractor is currently removing the affected fencing and soil ahead of the second phase of installation which is expected to commence following the anticipated delivery of two further trampolines this week.
“This will also include the installation of a climbing boulder stack in the park.’’
