Effort to make roads better for cyclists and walkers
Residents, businesses and stakeholders in Raploch are being asked their views on redesigning one of its busiest routes.
The project aims to redesign Raploch Road and the wider Forth Valley College link along Drip Road. It’s part of programme of improvements for walking and cycling across the city.
The Raploch Street Design Project, launched last Thursday, is run in partnership by Stirling Council and Sustrans Scotland, and funded by the Scottish Government through Sustrans’ Street Design programme.
Plans could include changes to Raploch Road and Drip Road between the junction with Raploch Road and Forth Valley College, which give greater priority to people movement and improve accessibility, enhance green space and make it easier to walk and cycle through the neighbourhood.
The project, which runs until June next year, is working with residents on ideas to improve and make safer public space on the link, and also to make the areas more attractive and sociable places to spend time in or travel through on foot or by bike.
They also hope to make it easier for people of all ages and abilities to travel on foot and by bike to facilities in the area, motivate residents to influence decisions affecting them and their environment, and showcase best practice to inspire other groups and organisations.
Stirling Council environment and housing convener Jim Thomson, said: “I would like to encourage everyone in the Raploch area to take part in the consultation. The experience of Sustrans in undertaking exemplary community-led design projects will help us to deliver road safety and public realm improvements on Raploch Road and Drip Road. “
To complement the project, a new website has been launched which gives people the chance to comment and view feedback left by others on the proposals.
