‘A hostile environment’

-

Raploch residents have already had their say on the streets redesign.

Among suggestions are introduction of bollards to limit “rat-run” traffic and more parking facilities for St Mark’s Church.

People have also complained about the difficulties crossing Drip Road by the school campus and dangerous parking on the pavement and in cycle lanes.

Another respondent said: “The 20 mph speed limit on Drip Road is welcome but with the volume of traffic (much of it not doing 20 mph) it is still a hostile environment for walking and cycling. It is very difficult to cross the road by the school campus.

Filtered permeability (curtailing vehicle access) will encourage those without super high levels of confidence and assertiveness to be able to ride bikes around their community, while still enabling people in motor vehicles to access all properties on Drip Road. This type of filtered permeability has worked exceedingly well in Torbrex at the junction of Glasgow Road/Newhouse and Ogilvie Road.”

Another added: “Raploch Road has much traffic that is passing through and not accessing the properties on Raploch Road or associated side streets.

“That passing traffic would be better suited to Millenium Way and Back O’Hill Road. People passing through are reducing the air quality and increasing the risk of road accidents, especially to pedestrians and people cycling, in residential areas in order to save a minute or so on their journey.

“Their selfishness must not impact the needs of people walking and cycling. Currently it is a hostile environment for walking and cycling.”
