Family hand over cheque to Kidney Support Scotland after fundraiser

- Kaiya Marjoribanks

The family of a Raploch man who died following complications from kidney failure have raised almost £2000 for charity.

Suzann Tully held a charity night in Raploch in memory of her dad Alastair Tully who passed away in March this year.

Last week the family presented a cheque for £1950 to Kidney Support Scotland and thanked the people of Stirling for their support.

Suzann said: “This is small charity but the money they raise goes to giving families with kidney disease respite at a caravan in Silversands Lossiemouth, which is fantastic.”

Alastair suffered from renal failure from 2000 and was put on dialysis before having a kidney transplant in 2008.

“The transplant lasted well for about two to three years,” said Suzann,.

“However, slowly over the years he deteriorated until 2015 when he became seriously ill. The transplanted kidney was infected and had infected the rest of his body.

“He was in intensive care for five days then had to go back on dialysis again, but he then took ill with his heart and had a valve replacement in January of this year. It went well but he had an infection in his lungs which wouldn’t get any better.

“Sadly we lost him on March 19 this year. He was 60 and would have been 61 the following week.

“Kidney Support Scotland was the easy choice. Hospitals, dialysis and renal wards have been a part of our lives for almost 18 years. They are a very small charity and rely on funding to help with the caravan. Stirling B&M store has also been very supportive of the charity and collects locally for them.”

Suzann said the support of the people and businesses of Stirling has been greatly appreciated by the family.

Among those to help have been Vinny’s Bar, where the charity night was held, Sublime/Glow, Dior and Clarins in Debenhams, A Nu Beauty and Brows, Lisa Conroy Nails, Joanne Hughes Nails, Lushus Beauty, local food shops, John Hill Butchers, Clark and Drummond, River Island, Diamond Diva Cleaning.

Suzann said: “We would also like to thank family and friends, especially Lillias Clark, Ann Brown, Maryann Carrick and Elizabeth Berry who helped on the night and with the organising of it all, and also everyone who donated, came along to the night and helped to raise an amazing amount of money for the charity.”

The charity’s spokesperson Margaret Campbell said: “The money, which we are using to replace the kitchen in the caravan was very much appreciated.

“The caravan is very well used by kidney and transplant patients.

“We do not charge patients any money to use the caravan so we really do rely on the kind donations of the public to allow us to keep offering them a much needed break.”
