Musical maestro Jon looking forward to visit

- Tolbooth, Stirling

Singer, composer and musician Jon Boden, best known as lead singer of the multi-award winning 11-piece folk big band Bellowhead, will play the Tolbooth on Saturday, September 29.

Jon has been the recipient of an impressive 11 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, more than any other musician, making him truly one of the most notable traditional folk musicians of current times.

He is touring venues throughout Scotland as a solo musician to showcase self-penned work from two solo albums as well as some traditional folk songs thrown in for good measure.

“I am so excited to play to Scottish audiences,” said Jon. “It’s been such a long time since I performed up here .

“It’s been such a fun journey over the last few years focusing on my own material and making my first two solo albums. I hope the people of Stirling enjoy the new work!”

Over 12 years Bellowhead achieved a level of critical and commercial success, selling 250,000 albums with regularly sold-out tours. In 2015 Jon decided it was time for him to leave the band and focus on his own solo work and on May 1, 2016 Bellowhead played their final gig where they started, at Oxford Town Hall.

With his solo performances attracting fantastic critical acclaim, he continues to enjoy a musical career that is going from strength to strength.

Outside of folk music, he holds a Masters Degree in Musical Theatre and has composed music for both theatre and film including two Royal Shakespeare productions at Stratford.

In 2013 he was commissioned to compose a version of Little Musgrave to be performed alongside Benjamin Britten’s work of the same name at Aldeburgh.

In addition he performed the Juliet Letters with the Sacconi Quartet at the Bristol Old Vic and wrote the signature music for comedy series Count Arthur Strong.
